Roberto Firmino, who has been pivotal to Liverpool’s impressive displays scored his 23rd goal in all competitions on Saturday night against Watford, which is the highest amount of goals the Brazil international has managed in a single season. His previous best tally in a single season was 22 goals, which he managed in the 2013/14 Bundesliga season at Hoffenheim. Jurgen Klopp’s direct style of play has allowed Firmino to flourish this term alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Firmino now looks like he has a guaranteed spot in Brazil’s World Cup team due to his exceptional performances for the Reds in the English top flight as well as the Champions League. Following the huge win, Liverpool currently occupies 3rd place in the Premier League standings having garnered 63 points and scored 73 goals in 31 games – only Manchester City (85) have scored more goals than Liverpool in the 2017/18 Premier League campaign. Whilst Champions League qualification is the best Liverpool can hope for on the domestic front, they’re still in with a shout of winning the Champions League having been drawn with Manchester City in an all-English Quarter-Final tie. It’s worth noting that Liverpool have already beaten Manchester City this season in the Premier League, hence, their Champions League clash will certainly be an intriguing affair.
